The Raven’s Due

Raise the raven, raise it high.
Truth like an axe through a rotten lie.
Hard years taught me to take the hit.
Worst of all, I got used to it.
I brace the shield, I plant my heel.
They'll hear the truth I learned to conceal.
Out with it. A knee in the dust, a mouth full of grit.
I get to my feet, I won't submit.
They call me savage for standing tall.
For raising a shield when they wanted me small.
Let them meet this steady stare, and tell me this is fair.
An oath to keep.
A wrong to end.
Raise the raven, raise it high.
Truth like an axe through a rotten lie.
Shield to shield, we hold our ground.
Let the fear they gave us chase them down.
